Event Overview

The Wind & Solar Integration Workshop is an annual technical conference on the large-scale integration of wind and solar power into electricity systems. The 24th edition was held in Berlin, Germany, from 7 to 10 October 2025, alongside the 9th E-Mobility Power System Integration Symposium. Both events form part of the Renewable Energy Grid Integration Week. The workshop has been organised by Energynautics since 2006. The programme addressed transmission and distribution system operators, manufacturers of wind turbines, solar inverters and electrolysers, researchers, consultants and regulators. Presentations combined operational project experience with modelling and simulation work. All sessions were held in English.

What happened in Berlin

Grid-forming converter control dominated the 2025 programme. A large share of contributions no longer asked whether grid-forming operation works, but how models of it can be validated against field measurements – several papers reported grid tests and model validation campaigns on operating wind and HVDC assets.

Grid-forming control moved from research topic to validation problem.

Hydrogen remained a standing topic for the second consecutive year, with contributions on electrolyser modelling, hydrogen for balancing and system-management strategies for combined hydrogen and power systems. A third strand concerned system stability under high converter shares: root-cause identification of small-signal instabilities, current limitation in grid-forming converters, and the behaviour of high-voltage grids during faults.

Key Topics & Focus Areas

The programme of the 24th Wind & Solar Integration Workshop was structured around six topic areas. Each reflects the contributions submitted to the 2025 Call for Papers and the sessions held in Berlin.

Key Takeaways

A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum.

Model validation

Model validation, not feasibility, is the current bottleneck for grid-forming converter deployment.

Field measurement campaigns

Field measurement campaigns on operating assets are becoming a standard element of grid-forming research.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is being treated as a power system component with balancing duties, not only as an industrial offtaker.

Limitation in grid-forming

Current limitation in grid-forming converters remains unresolved where grid codes and converter capability meet.

Proceedings

The papers presented at the 24th Wind & Solar Integration Workshop are published as digital conference proceedings on the IET Digital Library and IEEE Xplore. The volume has been submitted for indexing in IET Inspec, Ei Compendex and Scopus.

Recordings

All sessions of the 24th Wind & Solar Integration Workshop were recorded. The recordings can be purchased individually and are provided as downloads. Each recording includes the available papers of the corresponding session.
